Vores Historie

At the beginning of 2003, I embarked on a trip to the beautiful province of Quebec in Canada, along with my family who were a little in awe of what was going to happen during the trip.  We came upon the idea for Biscru during our visit to Canada but without realising its significance at the time.  In Canada, we had rented a farm and during our stay, we organised an organic food festival for the area.  We invited a local charity to join in and they suggested the idea of offering some raw or "living" food, to make a change from the norm.  After the festival, the organisers of the charity invited us to their "Dépanneur".  This was an old Quebecois delicatessen that had been transformed into a meeting and socialising place for the locals.

This place was a fantastic discovery for me, where around 60 people of all ages, nationalities and social classes came together as a family.  In one corner, there was a second-hand clothes shop offering incredible prices, in another corner, an organic food counter and another area had a library.  All of this was squeezed into a tiny space.  The most magical part of the "Dep" (that we affectionately called the place) was the kitchen.  Everyone joined in preparing meals for the community.  All this appeared so delicate and fragile, yet it was clear that it was impossible not to become attached to the positive energy that permeated throughout every corner of the Dep.

We quickly became the Dep's French friends and contributed some of the produce from our farm to the collective.

Amongst the products that the Dep offered for sale were some delicious biscuits.  I was curious and asked for the recipe and how they were made and then made a mental note of it for later.

During these three fantastic years, a strong friendship was established that still continues today, despite the distance between us.  On my return to France, I went to work in a holiday centre for people with disabilities and it was then that the idea of the raw biscuits came back to me.  The following year, I returned to Living Earth and begun to serve organic fast food that I tested on the restaurant customers.  Following interest from the guests, the idea of the company gradually began to take fruition.  I asked my friend Marie-Claire for permission to manufacture the crackers and modified the recipes so that we could produce them on a larger scale.  Biscru was born!

Biscru is the manifestation of my desire to grow and expand these and my other ideas.  My friends here and elsewhere understand that my aim is to bring people together and, with my employees, suppliers, customers, I have established a level of trust in everyone that I work with that enables me to manage my company very succesfully.  I never forget, however, that it is the initial abundance that makes all the difference, which in gardening terms is called biodiversity.

Every company has its own story.  The inception of a company comes from a desire, a passion, an idea or an invention.... Biscru was started from an inspiration and was developed over the course of several meetings.
